What To Expect From Your Child’s First Dental Visit

At DC dental Robina, we are committed to providing the best customer care to our patients and that includes your little ones! We strive to make your child’s visit to the dentist a positive and educational experience. We believe that it’s important for your little one to start seeing the dentist early on. The Australian Dental Association recommends that a child’s first dental visit should occur within six months of their first tooth appearing, and no later than their first birthday.

The first dental visit will be a new experience, so don’t worry if your child is hesitant to participate. It is important to keep in mind that our dental staff are trained to make your child feel comfortable.

Why Bring Your Child To The Dentist Early On?

Bringing your children into the dentist at an early age helps access the growth and development of your child’s teeth to identify and issues early on. Avoiding future dental fear and phobia is also an added benefit of seeing the dentist at an early age. At DC dental we aim to make your child introduce to dentistry with a friendly and positive experience so that they feel more comfortable when they inevitably visit the dentist in the future.

So What Should You Expect From Your Childs First Dental Visit?

The first visit for a younger patient is generally performed in a close vicinity to their parents- some may prefer sitting on their parents lap while we look and feel in their mouth. The first visit to the dentist will normally not involve treatment, so that their first experience is painless and positive. What the visit will generally involve is a visual examination of their teeth, to identify any possible issues. The rest of the appointment will then continue based on any questions the parents have and lastly our dentists will offer advice on:

  • Oral hygiene instruction and at home care- we’ll show your child how to brush their teeth
  • Preventative strategies- how to stop dental problems before they begin
  • Dietary advice
  • Individual treatment plan (if required)

You can use your $1000 worth of benefits from the Child Dental Benefits Scheme here at DC Dental Robina. The benefits cover treatments including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions.
