Dental Implants and Tooth Replacement

Are missing teeth making you feel self-conscious about your smile, or keeping you from eating comfortably each day? Dental Implants are the most advanced tooth replacement option available and have become the standard of care for patients with missing teeth.

A Dental Implant allows you to benefit from a brand new tooth that looks and feels natural. A major benefit of Dental Implants is that they are independent of the adjacent teeth, thereby preserving the healthy enamel of those neighbouring teeth.

Dental Implants can be used to replace one or more teeth, can be used to replace partial dentures and can stabilise full dentures. DC Dental can assess your needs and let you know how Dental Implants can benefit you.

What is a Dental Implant?

Essentially, a Dental Implant is a titanium screw tooth replacement that is integrated (strongly attached) to your jaw. A porcelain tooth is attached to the implant using an abutment (connector) giving you something that looks and feels like a real tooth but can’t decay. However, the gum around the implant needs to be cared for just like a normal tooth.

At DC Dental we love Dental Implants because we are building on a new reliable foundation without compromising the adjacent teeth. Dental Implants can be used to replace one tooth or more, up to an entire arch of teeth.

Implants are not new. They have been around for over 40 years. Furthermore, today’s implants backed by scientific research, have been proven to be reliable and are often the preferred treatment to replace missing teeth.

At DC Dental we will assess your individual needs. If implants are appropriate for you, we will refer you to one of our preferred specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons who will place the implants.

Integration of the implant usually takes three months during which time a temporary tooth is provided when needed. After integration, the abutments and crowns or bridges are provided by DC Dental.

Single Tooth Implant

Single tooth implants replace a missing tooth or one that requires removal. Often it is better to place the implant at the same time the tooth is removed.

A temporary tooth can be provided when necessary. After approximately three months, when the bone has integrated with the implant, the abutment and ceramic crown can be provided.

Your final implant tooth will look, feel and function similar to your own tooth.

Multiple Tooth Implants

This means that you don’t always need an implant for each missing tooth.

If there are three teeth missing in a row we often will only place two implants that will support three teeth.

Full Denture Stabilisation

Many people have problems with unstable lower full dentures. Dental implants utilising locators is a great way to avoid using those adhesives and enjoy a good meal.

Often, the provision of two implants with two locators within the existing full lower denture will provide more stability.

Full Denture Replacement

Dentures are no longer the only way to restore a mouth without teeth – be they upper or lower. Strategically placed implants can now be used to support fixed full dentures. Dental implants are becoming the alternative of choice to dentures.

Care of Implants

Poor oral hygiene is a big reason why some implants fail. It is important to floss and brush around the fixtures at least twice a day. DC Dental will give you specific instructions on how to care for your new implants. Regular cleanings at six-month intervals may be necessary to ensure that you retain healthy gums and implants.
